Ordinal Number

ordinalnumber

In Numeracy we are learning about ordinal number and the position/place something or someone can come in a line. During our classes we have  had car races, played games to match the numeral to the word (1st and first) and have learnt about positions to 15th.

We participated in a challenge with Sarah’s class; we had 5 different races (running, power walking, jumping, bear walking and super slow-mo) with the goal being to try and achieve a different position in each race. This was a great way for us to use our creativity, problem solving skills and helped build our resilience.

We have also discovered that ordinal numbers can be used in many situations

Killara’s 21st Birthday Concert

Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday dear Killara Primary School. Happy Birthday to you! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!

What a magnificent effort from all of our students and staff as they performed in 3 great shows throughout the day/night. It was wonderful to see everyone getting up in front of such a big audience, facing their fears, and showing off their talents.

We hope you all had a chance to come and celebrate with us. We look forward to ordering and watching the DVD next term.

Walkathon

Yesterday we participated in the whole school Walkathon. We needed to walk 4 laps of the school (2.5km) and even though some of us got tired we kept going and completed every lap. We were very excited to receive our hacky sack prize and were eager to give it a go.

Don’t forget to start collecting money from your sponsors and return the money and form to school as soon as possible. All students who raise $10 or more will go into the draw for of the sports packs. Major prizes will also be drawn for students who raise over $20 (increasing by one ticket for each $10 bracket).

Major prizes are:

1st – An iPad mini

2nd  – A laptop computer

3rd – A Toy World voucher ($100)

Well done to everyone that participated!

Patterns

This week we have been learning about Patterns; what makes a pattern, different types of patterns and where patterns are.

On Wednesday this week, we went on a pattern hunt. Using digital cameras we took photos of what we found. Here are some examples:

Walkathon

With the Community Walkathon on Wednesday 10th September from 2:00-3:30pm we have been practicing our route each morning with Sarah’s grade.  So far we have worked our way up to two laps and are excited about getting to four laps by Wednesday.

Make sure you are still getting your sponsors for the walk. Donations should be collected after our laps and brought to school in the days following.

Don’t forget the sausage sizzle afterwards too (this is not lunch).

We look forward to having you join us for the walk and hope it’s a lovely sunny day.
